A Digital Twin Solution for Continuous Casting of Steel Manufacturing

Digital Twin solutions are set to play a very active role in smart manufacturing.  With eth funding support from CESMII, a prototype of a 3-D Digital Twin of a caster at a steel plant has been developed at the Center for Innovation Thorough Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) at Purdue University Northwest (PNW) in collaboration with ArcelorMittal and Cleveland-Cliffs.  The caster digital twin is expected to be used both offline and online to track casting parameters relevant to slab quality, as well as equipment, sensor and modeling parameters relevant to machine condition.  It can also be used for virtual training of operators and engineers.
