Dr. Bernard Chukwulebe is head of Processing and Control Group and Digital Transformation Leader at ArcelorMittal Global R&D East Chicago Center. Bernard joined ArcelorMittal predecessor company in 1999 as a Research Engineer after 4 years of lectureship at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Lagos, Nigeria. At ArcelorMittal, he advanced progressively through a series of increasing technical responsibilities to become the Group Manager of Steelmaking – a position he held for 11 years covering Liquid Steel, Continuous Casting and Refractories research. In his current role, Bernard and his teams are tasked with ensuring ArcelorMittal’s global leadership in New Product Manufacturability, Cost, Throughput and Product Quality through innovative research in Steel Manufacturing technologies for downstream and finishing lines. As a steel manufacturing expert with distinguished track record of developing and leading highly professional teams and advanced research programs, Bernard and his teams are working collaboratively with internal and external laboratories, universities, and research organizations to develop and implement innovative and breakthrough process solutions for modern Steel Manufacturing with emphasis on data-driven Smart Manufacturing. He served over 4 years as Industrial Advisory Board of Kent D. Peaslee Steel Manufacturing Research Center at the Missouri University of Science and Technology and led ArcelorMittal participation in DOE proposal for the establishment of CESMII. Bernard has been an active member of AIST since 1998. He received his BS/MS. and PhD degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from the Moscow University of Science and Technology, Russia.
