The Smart Manufacturing Experience (SMX) Postponed

The Smart Manufacturing Experience (SMX) 2020 was scheduled to be co-located with IMTS in Chicago this coming September. As you may have seen, on June 8, 2020, the AMT Board of Directors reluctantly decided to cancel IMTS 2020 because we have not yet entered Stage 5 of the Illinois governor’s plan to reopen business in the state, which requires the immediate availability of a vaccine for the COVID 19 virus or a highly effective treatment protocol.

In light of this decision – which we fully support – and the apparent unlikelihood of reaching Stage 5 before September, SME has decided to postpone the Smart Manufacturing Experience for 2020.

This is disappointing for us as well as for everyone who was to be part of the event. However, our main priority remains the health, safety and wellness of everyone involved in SMX.

SME has served the manufacturing industry for almost 90 years – embracing and supporting emerging technologies and helping our industry to advance. We are committed to doing so even in these difficult circumstances; this is a responsibility we recognize and embrace. To continue to support the developers, providers, and users of smart manufacturing technologies, SME is taking the following actions:

  • With so much of the event already in place SME will present a virtual edition of the Smart Manufacturing Experience (SMX) later this Fall.  Full event details will be available soon.
  • SME’s all new Digital Resource Showcase, along with a host of other digital solutions will help connect smart solutions providers and thought leaders with their customers through online programs and activities.
  • SMX will also return in 2021 with satellite experiences around North America alongside many of SME’s signature events as the face-to-face business-to-business experience returns in safe and relevant formats that connect the Smart manufacturing industry.

We will be in contact with all exhibitors, partners, attendees, conference delegates and other stakeholders in the coming days to discuss your options and the next steps regarding SMX. We appreciate the opportunity to bring this remarkable community together, and we’re grateful to each of you for your patience, understanding, and loyalty.
